The Charger Softball Team spent Friday working at the Cardboard Boat Challenge and Stem Event hosted by GHC's science department.  Fifth graders from all over the state came to navigate the lake in their cardboard boats, on GHC Floyd Campus's Parris Lake. 

Some athletes helped direct traffic for over 500 students and their families, while the remainder of the athletes worked science stations that the 5th graders could participate in while they waited for their turn on the lake.  

Sharryse Henderson, longtime professor of Natural Sciences and coordinator for the STEM event said, "They had really positive attitudes and jumped right in.  Several stepped outside their comfort zones to do stations no one wanted and others seemed to be as excited about their stations as the 5th graders they were teaching."  

Some of the stations included freshwater macro-invertebrate survey, frog dissection demos, banana pianos, human trait bracelets, magnet magic, and many more.

Tracy Kight, a math instructor at GHC stated, "I had an opportunity to work with two of your softball players... They both worked well with the students, were kind, enthusicastic and they exhibited amazing attitudes."

Next up for the Chargers is a Sunday 10-inning game vs NCAA DI Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.
