The funny thing about games that look easy on paper is that you actually have to play them. The Chargers almost found out the hard way what can happen when you take your opponent for granted. The team had an up and down first half; leading half-way through by 10 but then falling behind by 9 just 4 minutes later. GHC was able to fight back to lead by 5 at the break, 47-42.

The second half was more of the same for the Chargers. While they led most the way, they were never able to put the game away. Every time the Chargers started to build a lead, Summer Hill would claw their way back. It appeared the Chargers would finally pull away late in the game but some missed shots by GHC and clutch 3’s by Summer Hill saw the game tied at 87-87 with 12.8 seconds remaining. As the clock ran down it looked as if the game would go to overtime with GHC having trouble getting into shooting position. Luckily for the Chargers, Cahiem Brown banked-in a 3-pointer on the run at the buzzer to win the game, 90-87. It was his only made 3 of the game. Brown also led the Chargers in scoring with 18. GHC also benefited greatly from Summer Hill going just 8-20 from the FT line in the 2nd half.

For the game, the Chargers continued their poor shooting from behind the arc (25%) and at the free-throw line (59%). GHC was also outrebounded for the game 33-32. In spite of the win, Coach Merritt focused team’s sub-par performance. “I’m glad for the W but I just didn’t do a good job of preparing the guys for the task at hand. I need to do a better job of that. The only positive is the fact that we were able to win a game where we didn’t play very well. We haven’t been able to do that so far this year. We will keep working to get better.”

The Chargers get a short break before their next game. They return to action at the Corral on December 5 against Preeminence Academy. Tip-off is at 7:00PM.
