CGTC Titans Win Third Consecutive Conference Title
Macon, Georgia.
The CGCT Titans seem to have found their comfort zone when it comes to the GCAA/Region 17 tournament. The only difference this year was that the Titans secured their third consecutive title at home with Saturday afternoon's 74-70 victory over Georgia Highlands College. And with the win, the Titans are also heading back to the NJCAA national tournament for a third straight year.
The road to victory wasn't easy as the Titans had to overcome a double digit deficit both nights.
Down 7 points at half, CGTC came out the start of the second half with a 16-3 run to take a 46-40 lead. They used that second half lead to pressure the Chargers into having to foul and the Titans went 16-20 from the free throw line. Freshman Montavious Terrell was 12 of13 of the Titans' free throw points, missing only once.
Tournament MVP Myles Washington finished with a team-high 23 points, five rebounds, one assist, three steals, and one block. Lincoln Smith added 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Terrell finished with 12 points three rebounds, and three assists, while All tournament member Champ Dawson contributed 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one block.
With the win the Titans were automatically named the NJCAA Southeast District Champions and receive an automatic bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas March 16-21, 2020. This is the Titans' fourth overall trip to Hutchinson in program history.
Seeding for the national tournament will take place on Monday, March 9 during the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Selection Show, which will air at 1:00 PM ET on NJCAA Championship TV at www.njcaachampstv.com.
