Clearwater, FL. – On a warm but rainy Friday afternoon the Georgia Highlands Lady Chargers faced the Lakehawks of Lake-Sumter State College in a double hitter to open up the 2020 season.

The first game proved a slow start for the Lady Chargers, as the Lakehawks hung seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. Hailey Cronic answered with a solo shot over the center field fence in the top of the second inning. Taryn Hitchcock also had four RBIs on the day accounting for four of the five runs scored by the lady chargers in game one.

Game two proved to be a different story for the Lady Chargers as they broke open the top of the first with two runs on the board. The Lakehawks answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Highlands regained the lead in the top of the third, and then the Lakehawks proceeded to tie up the game in the bottom of the first. Lady chargers regained the lead with two more runs in the top of the fifth as the Lakehawks only answered with one when the game was called early due to darkness. The game was highlighted by a home run and an RBI by Taryn Hitchcock, as well as RBIs by Haley Robinson, Izzy Marcotte, and Haley Overton.

After the double hitter at Lake-Sumter State College, the Lady Chargers traveled down to Clearwater, Florida to take part in the 2020 Adidas JUCO Classic Kickoff. A rainy day proved to be treacherous as game one against Florence Darlington was cancelled due to rain. However, game two was still deemed playable against the Titans of Eastern Florida. In seven innings the Lady Chargers hung 11 hits and nine runs on the Titans proving to be enough to pull out the win against the Titans who scored eight runs. Izzy Marcotte highlighted the offence getting a hit in all four of her at bats with two doubles. Maggie Schandera picked up the win in the circle.

Sunday of the 2020 Adidas JUCO classic proved to be challenging as the Lady Chargers dropped two games. The first game of the day was against Gulf Coast State College ended in a score of 10-5. This game was highlighted by the offense efforts of Lacey Rutledge who went 3 for 4 with a double, and Allison Daffron who went 3 for 3 with a double as well.

Game two of the day resulted in a 7-0 loss against Indian River State College. The Lady Chargers faced tough pitching collecting only two hits by Alexis Davis and Taryn Hitchcock in the game. Haley Robinson held Indian River scoreless until the third inning. Then, Montana Ledbetter came in to close out the game.

The Lady Chargers played their first home games Tuesday, February 4th versus Roane State Community College. The team split these games, losing 5-9 in Game 1 and winning Game 2, 13-5.
