#1 Gulf Coast Too Much for Lady Chargers

The Chargers knew it would be a tough game coming in to their contest against #1-ranked Gulf Coast State College. The Commodores were coming of a 44-point win over Walters State the night before, while GHC was recovering from a 22-point loss to #4 Northwest Florida. Despite being overmatched on the court, the Lady Chargers fought hard and never quit in their 63-85 loss to Gulf Coast.

The Ladies started out quickly and lead by 5 early in the first quarter, but Gulf Coast would fight back to take a 31-21 lead when the quarter was finished. The second quarter saw the Commodores continue to pull away as they built a 48-30 lead going into the half. The 3rd quarter saw the Chargers fight back to cut the lead 11 on a couple occasions while outscoring GCSC 20-18 for the quarter. In the end, the #1 team in the nation was able to pull away in the 4th for the 22-point victory.

For the second game in a row, Ja’Lyn Reese paced the Chargers with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. She also led the team with 3 assists. Jahnaria Brown scored 12 points while grabbing a team-high 9 boards. Nijeria Jordan added 12 points and 4 rebounds, while Sasha Shishkina rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Chargers with 10 points and 4 rebounds.

The Chargers record now stands at 4-5 (2-1 in the GCAA). The team has two conference games in the next week. They will open their GCAA home schedule against East Georgia State College on Wednesday, December 4 at the Corral. Tip-off is at 5:30PM. They then hit the road to Macon for a game against Central Georgia Tech on Friday, December 6 at 5:30PM.
