Chargers Softball Drops Two Games Versus Chattanooga State in Tuesday Night Action

Georgia Highlands College Chargers fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 12-3 loss to Chattanooga State on Tuesday. Chattanooga State took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Chargers Defense struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Chattanooga State, giving up 12 runs. Maggie Schandera was on the rubber for the Chargers. The righty lasted three innings, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs while striking out one. Katie Traynor threw two innings out of the bullpen, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out one of the Tigers.

Georgia Highland’s offense hit one home run on the day. Haley Robinson had a three-run long ball in the fourth inning. Hailey Cronic went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits. Taylor Justice collected a double, and Allison Deweese added a single. 

In game two, the Chargers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Chattanooga State, giving up 13 runs.

Offensively, the Chargers tallied four runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Malone Aldridge, a home run by Hailey Cronic, and a double by Audrey Johnson. Haley Overton, Madison Dennis, Johnson, Annsley Todd, Allison Deweese, Robinson, Cronic, and Aldridge each collected one hit to lead the offense. 

Haley Robinson started on the rubber for game two. Robinson surrendered four earned runs on seven hits over one inning, walking one. Gracee Ellis and Katie Traynor entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively. Ellis allowed six hits and six earned runs with no walks. Traynor allowed just three hits and collected one strikeout in her innings.
